Spectators: 7974 (Terracing: 5982, Seating: 1834, VIP seats: 158) The mood of the audience was pleasant when Mattis Jurgeleit made the kick off which started today's match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Torben Kentschke in the 4th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Romeo Rudinsky saved Zonguldakspor from getting behind. Romeo Rudinsky stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Edson Kläsener's shot from short distance in the 5th minute. In the 8th minute, Detlev Olbrich hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After recieving a nice pass, Schalker's Hartmut Kerrutt tried to score from far away in the 9th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Edson Kläsener's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Romeo Rudinsky read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 11th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 13th minute, Mattis Jurgeleit managed to get in a good position for a shot. Zonguldakspor's supporters rose to their feet, but Mattis Jurgeleit was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Kai Hoyer breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Zonguldakspor's Romeo Rudinsky played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edson Kläsener in the 18th minute of play. After 21 minutes, Einar Betz mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Schalker and the Zonguldakspor players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 21 played minutes Schalker got a freekick which was hit by Einar Betz. In the 23rd minute Mattis Jurgeleit shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kai Hoyer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 31st minute Edson Kläsener shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Romeo Rudinsky saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Pascal Stemmer charged in rather forcefully in the 33rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Pascal Stemmer the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After having played for 36 minutes, Edson Kläsener managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Schalker's supporters crossed their fingers, but Edson Kläsener was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the match clock showed 37 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Torben Kentschke sped through Zonguldakspor's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Romeo Rudinsky. After a defensive mix-up in Zonguldakspor's zone, Edson Kläsener stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Romeo Rudinsky came out of the goal and Edson Kläsener tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Edson Kläsener scored 0-2 in the 46th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Romeo Rudinsky, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.

In the 60th minute of the match Larry Zedi sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Kai Hoyer skillfully saved the ball. After 64 minutes, Dirk Gutmann mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Schalker and the Zonguldakspor players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Schalker's Dirk Gutmann got a free kick in the 64th minute. Torben Kentschke received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Romeo Rudinsky tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Romeo Rudinsky showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Einar Betz in the 68th minute of the match. Romeo Rudinsky stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Torben Kentschke's shot from short distance in the 69th minute. When Torben Kentschke came up free with the goalie in the 71st minute, the Schalker fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Torben Kentschke couldn't finish the play. After 73rd play minutes Edson Kläsener shot 0-3, a short shot which went by Romeo Rudinsky and just under the crossbar into goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mattis Jurgeleit in the 89th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Kai Hoyer prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Torben Kentschke received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Romeo Rudinsky tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Zonguldakspor's zone, Torben Kentschke stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Romeo Rudinsky came out of the goal and Torben Kentschke tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
