After 8 played minutes 1.FC Köln got a freekick which was hit by Relf Brachvogel. When Hemmo Bothner came up free with the goalie in the 9th minute, the Küsd fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hemmo Bothner couldn't finish the play. Christen Ruppmann took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vittorio Altmüller, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 13th minute, Siegfried Tassler managed to get in a good position for a shot. Küsd's supporters rose to their feet, but Siegfried Tassler was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Percy Skjelbred breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Hemmo Bothner in the 24th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Percy Skjelbred prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Jens Dugnus sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Hemmo Bothner had several of the 1.FC Köln's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 26 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 2-1 score and a disappointed Percy Skjelbred as he didn't even see the shot coming. Aristide Apostel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Percy Skjelbred having to interfere. If Hemmo Bothner had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 33 minutes, Hemmo Bothner made it 3-1 with a short kick to the right side. 1.FC Köln's Percy Skjelbred tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Palle Strohm hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. Siegfried Tassler received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Percy Skjelbred tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Percy Skjelbred made a fantastic save in the 41st minute, when Hemmo Bothner sent off a good shot on target. Vittorio Altmüller's late challenge caught a Küsd's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Vittorio Altmüller helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Küsd booed when 1.FC Köln was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vittorio Altmüller didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 43rd match minute, Küsd was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Georg Menge to maneuver through the defense.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Mladen Huthreuter stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The audience thought a goal was coming when Bartolomeo Walter got free with Christen Ruppmann in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 60th minute of the match 1.FC Köln got a corner. Küsd's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Gunnar Kirchberger ran over to the corner to take the kick. 1.FC Köln's Gunnar Kirchberger was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Christen Ruppmann in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. When the match had gone on for 63 minutes, Hemmo Bothner put it in 4-1 from a short distance just to the right of Percy Skjelbred. After 67 minutes, Georg Menge mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Küsd and the 1.FC Köln players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Küsd's Georg Menge got a free kick in the 67th minute. Percy Skjelbred stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Hemmo Bothner's shot from short distance in the 70th minute. Christen Ruppmann made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mladen Huthreuter in the 75th minute of play. There was no doubt that Küsd were the better team. Küsd's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
