Domingo Habibi started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. Domingo Habibi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kai Hoyer having to interfere. Kai Hoyer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tarik Wille, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Bleckden's Pascal Eck proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 13th minute of the match, managed to save Bleckden from getting a goal against them. 14 minutes into the game, Joost Krummacher was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Bleckden's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Schalker the free kick. A collision led to Bleckden getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Joost Krummacher hit a great ball. Edson Kläseners short, quick shot in the 15thth minute got Pascal Eck to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Pascal Eck was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Torben Kentschke showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 16 minute of play. Domingo Habibi struck a weak shot in the 20th minute. Kai Hoyer didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Bleckden. Pascal Eck made a fantastic save in the 23rd minute, when Edson Kläsener sent off a good shot on target. Bleckden's Pascal Eck played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Einar Betz in the 26th minute of play. 30 minutes into the match, Bleckden's goalkeeper Pascal Eck had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Edson Kläsener. The supporters of Schalker booed when Bleckden was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tarik Wille didn't get a good kick on the ball. Pascal Eck made an important save on a dangerous shot by Edson Kläsener in the 36th minute. After a rather tough play, Bleckden's Tarik Wille got a free kick in the 38th minute. If Domingo Habibi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Tarik Wille came up free with the goalie in the 43rd minute, the Bleckden fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tarik Wille couldn't finish the play. 45 minutes into the game, Domingo Habibi cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Kai Hoyer was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Kai Hoyer made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Domingo Habibi in the 50th minute of play. Edson Kläsener sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Pascal Eck dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-1. Pascal Eck took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Torben Kentschke, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Pascal Eck showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Torben Kentschke in the 81st minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 82nd minute, Edson Kläsener managed to get in a good position for a shot. Schalker's supporters rose to their feet, but Edson Kläsener was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Pascal Eck breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Domingo Habibi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 86 played minutes Bleckden got a freekick which was hit by Hauke Noffke. When Hartmut Kerrutt came up free with the goalie in the 87th minute, the Schalker fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hartmut Kerrutt couldn't finish the play. After having played for 94 minutes, Torben Kentschke managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Schalker's supporters crossed their fingers, but Torben Kentschke was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. Schalker were victorious despite being under pressure from Bleckden for much of the match.
