Borussia Dortmund's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Neubrandenburg the free kick. A collision led to Borussia Dortmund getting a freekick after 5 minutes play. James Kienböck hit a great ball. Mathis Rippert took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fritz Rudolf Bankett, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Neubrandenburg's Oskar Schirmbeck got a free kick in the 11th minute. Mathis Rippert showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bernd Kahlert, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. Mathis Rippert came out of the goal in the 18th minute to try and stop a shot by Neubrandenburg's Bernd Kahlert. But to his dismay, Bernd Kahlert quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. When the match clock showed 23 minutes, the score became 0-2 when Bernd Kahlert sped through Borussia Dortmund's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Mathis Rippert. After having played for 26 minutes, Bernd Kahlert managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Neubrandenburg's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bernd Kahlert was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Mathis Rippert showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fritz Rudolf Bankett in the 28th minute of the match. Arko Lau was out of position in the 29 minute of play, and Victor Jerat capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Victor Jerat really showed his touch with that goal: 1-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fritz Rudolf Bankett in the 38th minute of play forced Borussia Dortmund's goalkeeper Mathis Rippert to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bernd Kahlert fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mathis Rippert having to interfere. After 43 minutes, David Paul mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Neubrandenburg and the Borussia Dortmund players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Borussia Dortmund booed when Neubrandenburg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. David Paul didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ignaz Kuhl was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 44th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. In the 48th minute Victor Jerat shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arko Lau saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Fritz Rudolf Bankett made a kick off. In the 61st minute, Neubrandenburg's Fritz Rudolf Bankett dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-3. If Bernd Kahlert had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mathis Rippert showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Maximilian Runge, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. 68 minutes into the match, Borussia Dortmund's goal looked a bit too open when Fritz Rudolf Bankett came free, but Mathis Rippert reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, Borussia Dortmund's Mathis Rippert got control of the ball when Bernd Kahlert tried to sneak it across the goal line. Mathis Rippert didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Neubrandenburg. The Borussia Dortmund fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Neubrandenburg were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
