Neubrandenburg

Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Neubrandenburg's Fritz Rudolf Bankett started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Einar Betz hit a great freekick 2 minutes into the match. Bernd Kahlerts short, quick shot in the 6thth minute got Kai Hoyer to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Edson Kläsener in the 8th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Arko Lau saved Neubrandenburg from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edson Kläsener in the 10th minute of play forced Neubrandenburg's goalkeeper Arko Lau to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 12th minute Edson Kläsener shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arko Lau saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 19th minute of the match Neubrandenburg got a corner. Schalker's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Julian Sünneke ran over to the corner to take the kick. Schalker's Kai Hoyer proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 22nd minute of the match, managed to save Schalker from getting a goal against them. Fritz Rudolf Bankett struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Kai Hoyer didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Neubrandenburg. When Fritz Rudolf Bankett came up free with the goalie in the 33rd minute, the Neubrandenburg fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fritz Rudolf Bankett couldn't finish the play. 36 minutes into the game, Jan Kahn was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Schalker's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Neubrandenburg the free kick. The audience was convinced that Fritz Rudolf Bankett's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Kai Hoyer was relentless in the 37th minute of the game. Kai Hoyer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fritz Rudolf Bankett, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. If Edson Kläsener had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Torben Kentschke to strike the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Schalker getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Jan Kahn hit a great ball. If Bernd Kahlert had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Torben Kentschke fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arko Lau having to interfere. Neubrandenburg's Bernd Kahlert got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Edson Kläsener had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 77 minutes into the game, Neubrandenburg's Fritz Rudolf Bankett nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Kai Hoyer made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. The supporters of Schalker booed when Neubrandenburg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tjard Buhlert didn't get a good kick on the ball. Arko Lau took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Torben Kentschke, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Torben Kentschke sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Torben Kentschke's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Arko Lau read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 94th minute of play. In the 95th minute, Rainer Maria Volkmann hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Neubrandenburg walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
