The referee ignored Borussia Dortmund's protests and gave James Kienböck a yellow card for diving instead. James Kienböck hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. Schachthalden's Uwe-Jens Kretschmann proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 7th minute of the match, managed to save Schachthalden from getting a goal against them. The crowd rose to their feet as André Zeiss kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Uwe-Jens Kretschmann. That made the score 1-0 in the 7 minute of play. After a rather tough play, Borussia Dortmund's Ignaz Kuhl got a free kick in the 10th minute. 13 minutes into the match, Borussia Dortmund's goal looked a bit too open when Leopold Thieme came free, but Mathis Rippert reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 15th minute of the match, Roland Lorenz tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Uwe-Jens Kretschmann saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. 16 minutes into the match, Roland Lorenz dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Uwe-Jens Kretschmann, 2-0. In the 19th minute the ball was on its way in behind Schachthalden's goalkeeper Uwe-Jens Kretschmann, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 20th minute, Rodolfo Rubeck managed to get in a good position for a shot. Schachthalden's supporters rose to their feet, but Rodolfo Rubeck was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mathis Rippert breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of Schachthalden booed when Borussia Dortmund was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Norbert Kessen didn't get a good kick on the ball. 29 minutes into the game, Benedikt Mackowiak cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-1. Mathis Rippert was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Victor Jerat was the one to do the kick off. Victor Jerat took the ball and in the 54 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Uwe-Jens Kretschmann. Uwe-Jens Kretschmann dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-1. Roland Lorenz kicked well hit freekick during the 60th minute of the match. Uwe-Jens Kretschmann showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Victor Jerat in the 64th minute of the match. James Kienböck fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Uwe-Jens Kretschmann having to interfere. 69 minutes into the game, André Zeiss cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 5-1. Uwe-Jens Kretschmann was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 77 minutes into the game, Borussia Dortmund's Victor Jerat nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Uwe-Jens Kretschmann made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 6-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Roland Lorenz in the 80th minute of play forced Schachthalden's goalkeeper Uwe-Jens Kretschmann to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rodolfo Rubecks short, quick shot in the 81stth minute got Mathis Rippert to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Roland Lorenz hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Nils Haaf in the 83rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Mathis Rippert prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 85 minutes into the game, James Kienböck cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 7-1. Uwe-Jens Kretschmann was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. If Leopold Thieme had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 91st match minute, Borussia Dortmund was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Norbert Kessen to maneuver through the defense. André Zeiss fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Uwe-Jens Kretschmann having to interfere. In the 96th minute, Nils Haaf got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Borussia Dortmund's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
