Torben Kentschke made the kick off and thus started the match. Uwe-Jens Kretschmann made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Torben Kentschke in the 5th minute of play. An unexpected shot in the 7th minute by Ralph Schwabe got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. A collision led to Schalker getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Anton Thieringer hit a great ball. 11 minutes into the match, Schachthalden's Rodolfo Rubeck sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Kai Hoyer narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 13 minutes into the match, Torben Kentschke had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Uwe-Jens Kretschmann. Schachthalden's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Torben Kentschke was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. When Schachthalden's Nils Haaf in the 16th minute got a chance for a shot 16th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Schalker's goalie prevented a goal. Uwe-Jens Kretschmann took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Torben Kentschke, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Schachthalden's Uwe-Jens Kretschmann played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Torben Kentschke in the 27th minute of play. Uwe-Jens Kretschmann didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Edson Kläsener went, in the 29th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Rodolfo Rubeck who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 32ndth minute tested the skills of Kai Hoyer when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The supporters of Schachthalden booed when Schalker was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jan Kahn didn't get a good kick on the ball. Schachthalden's Nils Haaf got a good chance for a goal in the 35th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 36 minutes into the game, Dirk Gutmann was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Schalker's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Schachthalden the free kick. The supporters of Schachthalden booed when Schalker was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dirk Gutmann didn't get a good kick on the ball. Uwe-Jens Kretschmann took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Torben Kentschke, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edson Kläsener in the 40th minute of play forced Schachthalden's goalkeeper Uwe-Jens Kretschmann to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rodolfo Rubeck's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 44thth minute, Kai Hoyer skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. If Benedikt Mackowiak had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Einar Betz kicked well hit freekick during the 51st minute of the match. Edson Kläsener could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 56th minute of the match, but Uwe-Jens Kretschmann made a huge save. Schachthalden's Uwe-Jens Kretschmann played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Torben Kentschke in the 59th minute of play. Kai Hoyer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rodolfo Rubeck, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. In the 62nd minute Torben Kentschke shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Uwe-Jens Kretschmann saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Uwe-Jens Kretschmann showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Torben Kentschke, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Kai Hoyer prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ralph Schwabe sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 79 played minutes Schalker got a freekick which was hit by Dirk Gutmann. Rodolfo Rubeck struck a weak shot in the 82nd minute. Kai Hoyer didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Schachthalden. A collision led to Schalker getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Egidius Hoppensack hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Schalker's Einar Betz got a free kick in the 88th minute. Kai Hoyer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rodolfo Rubeck, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rodolfo Rubeck in the 93rd minute of play forced Schalker's goalkeeper Kai Hoyer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Einar Betz kicked well hit freekick during the 94th minute of the match.
