Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) If Victor Jerat had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 3rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Schalker's zone, Victor Jerat stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Kai Hoyer came out of the goal and Victor Jerat tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Borussia Dortmund's Roland Lorenz got a free kick in the 7th minute. In the 17th minute the ball was on its way in behind Borussia Dortmund's goalkeeper Mathis Rippert, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Roland Lorenz hit a great freekick 25 minutes into the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Edson Kläsener in the 27th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Mathis Rippert saved Borussia Dortmund from getting behind. If Torben Kentschke had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 35 minutes into the game, Norbert Kessen was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Borussia Dortmund's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Schalker the free kick. In the 35th minute, Norbert Kessen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 36 minutes into the match, Schalker's Torben Kentschke sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Mathis Rippert narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 37thth minute of the game Torben Kentschke who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Borussia Dortmund's Mathis Rippert was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Schalker's Kai Hoyer proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 42nd minute of the match, managed to save Schalker from getting a goal against them.
Borussia Dortmund's Mathis Rippert played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Torben Kentschke in the 55th minute of play. Edson Kläsener who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 56thth minute tested the skills of Mathis Rippert when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 58 minutes into the game, Anton Thieringer was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Schalker's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Borussia Dortmund the free kick. When Ignaz Kuhl came up free with the goalie in the 60th minute, the Borussia Dortmund fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ignaz Kuhl couldn't finish the play. After 65 played minutes Borussia Dortmund got a freekick which was hit by Predrag Ovekamp. In the 67th minute, Victor Jerat got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Kai Hoyer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from James Kienböck, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. Torben Kentschke fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mathis Rippert having to interfere. 79 minutes into the match, James Kienböck notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Schalker's Kai Hoyer. Kai Hoyer was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. If Victor Jerat had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 87 minutes into the match, Borussia Dortmund's goal looked a bit too open when Torben Kentschke came free, but Mathis Rippert reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Edson Kläsener recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Borussia Dortmund fully deserved thier win.
