FC Köln's Enzo Neuhäuser played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eckart Rattinger in the 5th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Fortuna D FC's Dietrich Klein got a free kick in the 9th minute. After 10 played minutes Fortuna D FC got a freekick which was hit by Jakob Vorbeck. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rainer Gottschling got free with Enzo Neuhäuser in the 14th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gernot Haas in the 19th minute of play forced Fortuna D FC's goalkeeper Lorenz Faber to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gernot Haas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 30 minutes into the game, Gernot Haas cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Lorenz Faber was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. If Gernot Haas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lorenz Faber took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gernot Haas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Amerigo Boskamp fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lorenz Faber having to interfere. In the 44th minute, Fortuna D FC's Rainer Gottschling dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-1. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

54 minutes into the match, 1. FC Köln's goal looked a bit too open when Jacob Dörfler came free, but Enzo Neuhäuser reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Elmo Lack fell near the penalty area in the 57th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored 1. FC Köln's protests and gave Elmo Lack a yellow card for diving instead. Amerigo Boskamp sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 67 minutes into the match, Rainer Gottschling had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Enzo Neuhäuser. 1. FC Köln's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Rainer Gottschling was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. Eckart Rattinger fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Enzo Neuhäuser having to interfere. After a rather tough play, 1. FC Köln's Livio Reisinger got a free kick in the 71st minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 72nd minute, Eckart Rattinger managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fortuna D FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Eckart Rattinger was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Enzo Neuhäuser breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 1. FC Köln were furious when Livio Reisinger was red carded, 76 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. The supporters of Fortuna D FC booed when 1. FC Köln was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Livio Reisinger didn't get a good kick on the ball. Enzo Neuhäuser showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rainer Gottschling in the 78th minute of the match. Gernot Haas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Lorenz Faber tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 86 minutes, Robbie Rix managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. 1. FC Köln's supporters crossed their fingers, but Robbie Rix was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Fortuna D FC booed when 1. FC Köln was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hubertus Gross didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Jacob Dörfler in the 96th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Enzo Neuhäuser prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Fortuna D FC fans cheered their team off the field, for while 1. FC Köln had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
