Johannes Popp could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 15th minute of the match, but 钱强朋 made a huge save. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 17th minute of the game. One of Kesten:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Eulenbis:s goal. A collision led to Eulenbis getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. Ferdinand Humpich hit a great ball. Eulenbis's 钱强朋 proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 26th minute of the match, managed to save Eulenbis from getting a goal against them. In the 33rd minute of the match, Kurt Illgner tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but 钱强朋 saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Eulenbis's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Johannes Popp was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The referee ignored Kesten's protests and gave Nenad Blecker a yellow card for diving instead. Kesten walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
