He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Dynamo Grimma reached it. 37 minutes into the match, Ole Neuling had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Matti Heidsiek. Dynamo Grimma's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ole Neuling was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. 47 minutes into the match, Dynamo Grimma's Ferdinand Koeppen sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Arne Pingel narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ferdinand Koeppen to make the kick off.
