Oberndorf's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. In the 12th minute Matthias Kurbjuweit shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Claudio Apicella saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Oberndorf's Claudio Apicella played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Matthias Kurbjuweit in the 14th minute of play. 18 minutes into the game, KFC Uerdingen's Matthias Kurbjuweit nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Claudio Apicella made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. Karl Gabler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Claudio Apicella having to interfere. In the 26th minute, Egidius Pfitzner hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 27 played minutes Oberndorf got a freekick which was hit by Bill Jagnow. After having played for 29 minutes, Matthias Kurbjuweit managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. KFC Uerdingen's supporters crossed their fingers, but Matthias Kurbjuweit was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 30th match minute, Oberndorf was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dick Lodgman von Auen to maneuver through the defense. In the 35th minute Matthias Kurbjuweit shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Claudio Apicella saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nicolas Lameck hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. Dick Lodgman von Auen's late challenge caught a KFC Uerdingen's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dick Lodgman von Auen helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Oberndorf getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. Dick Lodgman von Auen hit a great ball. In the 42nd minute, Egidius Pfitzner ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Claudio Apicella was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-3.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Matthias Kurbjuweit to make the kick off. After 53 minutes, Raik Welskop mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the KFC Uerdingen and the Oberndorf players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 63rd match minute, KFC Uerdingen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nicolas Lameck to maneuver through the defense. After 64 played minutes Oberndorf got a freekick which was hit by Bill Jagnow. Claudio Apicella stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Matthias Kurbjuweit's shot from short distance in the 66th minute. Klaus-Dieter van Hoddis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ion Jula in the 69th minute of play. Ion Jula received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Klaus-Dieter van Hoddis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Claudio Apicella showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Matthias Kurbjuweit, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. If Eros Guttenberg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eros Guttenberg in the 89th minute of play forced Oberndorf's goalkeeper Claudio Apicella to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 95thth minute of the game Matthias Kurbjuweit who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Oberndorf's Claudio Apicella was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. KFC Uerdingen played a much better game than Oberndorf and deserved their victory. The Oberndorf players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
