Wenzel Lukner showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dittmar Lehmann in the 12th minute of the match. 15 minutes into the game, Rehfelde FSV's Monty Michalk nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Eduard Hebel made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Winfried Kitzberger fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eduard Hebel having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lew Schäfer got free with Eduard Hebel in the 21st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 22nd minute Winfried Kitzberger shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eduard Hebel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Rainer Kugler in the 26th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Wenzel Lukner prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of Flensburger FC booed when Rehfelde FSV was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cosmo Starke didn't get a good kick on the ball. Eduard Hebel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Winfried Kitzberger, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. Winfried Kitzberger hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. Rehfelde FSV's Wenzel Lukner played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rainer Kugler in the 41st minute of play. If Cosmo Starke had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Rainer Kugler to make the kick off. In the 58th match minute, Flensburger FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mattis Zach to maneuver through the defense. In the 69th minute the ball was on its way in behind Flensburger FC's goalkeeper Eduard Hebel, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 87th minute of the match Rehfelde FSV got a corner. Flensburger FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Rehfelde FSV's supporters crossed their fingers, but Winfried Kitzberger was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Rehfelde FSV fans cheered their team off the field, for while Flensburger FC had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
