After a defensive mix-up in Visperterminen HC's zone, Richard Wirth stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Neil Henchoz came out of the goal and Richard Wirth tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Richard Wirth blasted a shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Neil Henchoz having to make a save. The audience thought a goal was coming when Alexander Muller got free with Philip Hübscher in the 17th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ulric Dobmann might have been able to make a better finish in the 19th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Neil Henchoz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ulric Dobmann ran back to his position shaking his head. When FC Basilea's Richard Wirth in the 20th minute got a chance for a shot 20th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Visperterminen HC's goalie prevented a goal. In the 29th minute, Beat Castelletti left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. When the match clock showed 32 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Gillian Zufferey sped through FC Basilea's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Philip Hübscher. Neil Henchoz stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Beat Castelletti's shot from short distance in the 35th minute. FC Basilea's Philip Hübscher played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gillian Zufferey in the 36th minute of play. Philip Hübscher made a fantastic save in the 41st minute, when Alexander Muller sent off a good shot on target. After some careless play in the Visperterminen HC defense, Ulric Dobmann kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Neil Henchoz. The Visperterminen HC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Neil Henchoz should have stopped the shot. Gillian Zufferey took the ball and in the 61 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Philip Hübscher. Philip Hübscher dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-2. In the 64th match minute, Visperterminen HC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Pius Tschupp to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Visperterminen HC's Neil Henchoz got control of the ball when Beat Castelletti tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gillian Zufferey in the 66th minute of play forced FC Basilea's goalkeeper Philip Hübscher to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Richard Wirth in the 68thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Neil Henchoz, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Pius Tschupp took the ball and in the 74 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Philip Hübscher. Philip Hübscher dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-2. In the 78th minute, Alexander Muller hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a little luck, Visperterminen HC's Neil Henchoz got control of the ball when Beat Castelletti tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 84th minute, Cedric Rindlisbacher ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Philip Hübscher was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-2. After a rather tough play, FC Basilea's Salomo Ruano got a free kick in the 87th minute. After 88 played minutes, Visperterminen HC's Stanislaw Frey shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Philip Hübscher came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Visperterminen HC reached it. Philip Hübscher showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alexander Muller, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. Neil Henchoz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Beat Castelletti in the 94th minute of play. FC Basilea's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
