If Jay Labrie had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Cagliari booed when Nascharegnas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nikolai Dolder didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 27th minute, Jan Zwimpfer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 29th minute of the match Mathias Naumann shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Roger Urfer showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Roger Urfer showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carl Rutten in the 31st minute of the match. 34 minutes into the match, Horatio Oester notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Cagliari's Peter Lussier. Peter Lussier was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Harald Hegner during the 36th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 36th minute, Harald Hegner hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Nascharegnas's zone, Harald Hegner stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Roger Urfer came out of the goal and Harald Hegner tried to chip the ball over his head. In the 42ndth minute of the game Harald Hegner who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Nascharegnas's Roger Urfer was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Peter Lussier showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ulrich Zuber in the 47th minute of the match. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Harald Hegner to make the kick off. Peter Lussier took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Donato Sevier, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 52nd match minute, Cagliari was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jules Wiss to maneuver through the defense. Roberto Ebersbach took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 53rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Peter Lussier. Cagliari's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After 54 played minutes Cagliari got a freekick which was hit by Samuel Bermudo. 58 minutes into the match, Nascharegnas's Ingvar Bucheli sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Peter Lussier narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Jay Labrie sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Peter Lussier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nikolai Dolder in the 68th minute of play. In the 73rd minute Ingvar Bucheli shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Peter Lussier saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cagliari's Jay Labrie got a good chance for a goal in the 81st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Harald Hegner sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Roberto Ebersbach kicked well hit freekick during the 92nd minute of the match.
