After a defensive mix-up in Berne Wanderers FC's zone, Fritz Cicchetti stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cláudio Taffarel came out of the goal and Fritz Cicchetti tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Fritz Cicchetti kicked well hit freekick during the 19th minute of the match. Simon Blattmer received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Cláudio Taffarel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Carl Gruenewald recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Fernando Erni fell near the penalty area in the 28th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Berne Wanderers FC's protests and gave Fernando Erni a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of SSC Napoli - THE END booed when Berne Wanderers FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fernando Erni didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Fritz Cicchetti managed to get in a good position for a shot. SSC Napoli - THE END's supporters rose to their feet, but Fritz Cicchetti was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cláudio Taffarel breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 32ndth minute of the game Lamberto Riedweg who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but SSC Napoli - THE END's Boris Oehen was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Simon Blattmer got free with Cláudio Taffarel in the 36th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Kristian Reuteler kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. SSC Napoli - THE END's Silas Santagapita shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 47th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Cláudio Taffarel but with some difficulty. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Cláudio Taffarel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Farid Stäheli, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute.
