Harold Hinnen blasted a shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Servatius Böni having to make a save. Gaston Schwyzer made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lasse Wunderlin in the 15th minute. When Bastien Visser fell near the penalty area in the 17th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Belfaux's protests and gave Bastien Visser a yellow card for diving instead. Williams Christen hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. If Brian Wabe had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in FC Basel's zone, Harold Hinnen stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Servatius Böni came out of the goal and Harold Hinnen tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ivan Sperisen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Servatius Böni tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Harold Hinnen struck a weak shot in the 40th minute. Servatius Böni didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Belfaux. After 45 played minutes FC Basel got a freekick which was hit by Xaver Affentranger.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Harold Hinnen made a kick off. In the 55thth minute of the game Harold Hinnen who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FC Basel's Servatius Böni was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Servatius Böni didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when Belfaux's Harold Hinnen shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 0-1 in the ordered_time% minute. Franklin Winiker took the ball and in the 64 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Gaston Schwyzer. Gaston Schwyzer dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Harold Hinnen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Servatius Böni tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Harold Hinnen in the 70thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Servatius Böni, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. If Harold Hinnen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gaston Schwyzer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Douglas Garnier, who was totally free with the ball in the 74th minute. FC Basel's Sandro Kretz got a good chance for a goal in the 77th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Douglas Garnier fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gaston Schwyzer having to interfere. 83 minutes into the game, Sandro Kretz cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Gaston Schwyzer was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After a defensive mix-up in FC Basel's zone, Bastien Visser stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Servatius Böni came out of the goal and Bastien Visser tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Harold Hinnens short, quick shot in the 88thth minute got Servatius Böni to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 3-1 became the score in the 94th minute when Lasse Wunderlin elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. The FC Basel players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
