It was a very nice shot. After a defensive mix-up in Esneux's zone, Thommy Saelens stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Francis Van Hallebeecke came out of the goal and Thommy Saelens tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 32 played minutes KFC Waalshoek got a freekick which was hit by Jorn Weijnandts. Harrie Iansens struck a weak shot in the 34th minute. J.P. J.J. didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Esneux. Harrie Iansens's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but J.P. J.J. read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 36th minute of play. Thommy Saelens recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 38th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Thommy Saelens received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Francis Van Hallebeecke tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 47 played minutes Esneux got a freekick which was hit by Harrie Iansens. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

If Thommy Saelens had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. KFC Waalshoek's Thommy Saelens got a good chance for a goal in the 53rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. KFC Waalshoek's supporters rose to their feet, but Thommy Saelens was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Francis Van Hallebeecke breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Esneux's Francis Van Hallebeecke proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 64th minute of the match, managed to save Esneux from getting a goal against them. The audience thought a goal was coming when Thommy Saelens got free with Francis Van Hallebeecke in the 97th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When the referee blew the final whistle, Esneux could leave the field as winners, despite KFC Waalshoek having more of the ball for most of the match.
