Guust Van Eyke's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Kevin Gendre read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 4th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 5th minute, Jorne De Backer managed to get in a good position for a shot. KAA Nismes's supporters rose to their feet, but Jorne De Backer was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Kevin Gendre breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Guust Van Eyke had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 7th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 8 minutes into the match, Jorne De Backer notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of krc genk's Kevin Gendre. Kevin Gendre was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Luke Asselberghs blasted a shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Kevin Gendre having to make a save. Jakob Van Laer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ricky Wyns having to interfere. KAA Nismes's Guust Van Eyke was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 18th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. After 30 played minutes krc genk got a freekick which was hit by Marco Dheedene. Guust Van Eyke could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 35th minute of the match, but Kevin Gendre made a huge save. Jorne De Backer might have been able to make a better finish in the 36th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Kevin Gendre. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jorne De Backer ran back to his position shaking his head. The audience thought a goal was coming when Guust Van Eyke got free with Kevin Gendre in the 38th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The supporters of KAA Nismes booed when krc genk was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Constantijn Teunens didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 41st minute, Ronny Enfant hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Guust Van Eyke was the one to do the kick off. Abel Keuppens charged in rather forcefully in the 52nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Abel Keuppens the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of krc genk booed when KAA Nismes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Abel Keuppens didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 55th minute Luke Asselberghs shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kevin Gendre saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Luke Asselberghs had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Guust Van Eyke struck a weak shot in the 60th minute. Kevin Gendre didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for KAA Nismes. krc genk's Kevin Gendre played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jorne De Backer in the 61st minute of play. If Luke Asselberghs had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Guust Van Eyke in the 73rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Kevin Gendre saved krc genk from getting behind. After having played for 74 minutes, Jorne De Backer managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. KAA Nismes's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jorne De Backer was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Kevin Gendre made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Guust Van Eyke in the 75th minute of play. Jorne De Backer took the ball and in the 77 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Kevin Gendre. Kevin Gendre dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 5-0. When Jorne De Backer came up free with the goalie in the 80th minute, the KAA Nismes fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jorne De Backer couldn't finish the play. Kevin Gendre stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Max Pelsmaeker's shot from short distance in the 83rd minute. If Abel Keuppens had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Guust Van Eyke fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kevin Gendre having to interfere. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. KAA Nismes fully deserved thier win.
