The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Loid Van de Weijer received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Manuel Maerschalck tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 4 minutes into the game, Ronald Tombeurs was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. AA Buffalo's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Wetteren the free kick. The supporters of Wetteren booed when AA Buffalo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ronald Tombeurs didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Thomas-Jan Valkeneers came up free with the goalie in the 17th minute, the AA Buffalo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Thomas-Jan Valkeneers couldn't finish the play. Robby Van Haechten fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Manuel Maerschalck having to interfere. Bart Van Leemputten kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. In the 30th minute, Ivan Van Hoof sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Wetteren's Paulus De Raedemaeker didn't even have to move. When Joseph Smidts came up free with the goalie in the 35th minute, the AA Buffalo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Joseph Smidts couldn't finish the play. In the 38th minute Joseph Smidts shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paulus De Raedemaeker saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Wetteren's zone, Joseph Smidts stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paulus De Raedemaeker came out of the goal and Joseph Smidts tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Steve Langendonck made the kick off in the second half. 56 minutes into the match, Loid Van de Weijer had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Manuel Maerschalck. AA Buffalo's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Loid Van de Weijer was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. A collision led to Wetteren getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Vic Tael hit a great ball. After having played for 64 minutes, Joseph Smidts managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. AA Buffalo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Joseph Smidts was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 71 minutes into the match, Wetteren's Steve Langendonck sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Manuel Maerschalck narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 79 minutes into the game, Nicky Van de Weijer was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. AA Buffalo's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Wetteren the free kick. Nicky Van de Weijer kicked well hit freekick during the 80th minute of the match. Wetteren's Paulus De Raedemaeker played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Thomas-Jan Valkeneers in the 83rd minute of play. 90 minutes into the game, Steve Langendonck recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Manuel Maerschalck. Steve Langendonck showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-2. If Steve Langendonck had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
