The referee ignored Zerkegem's protests and gave Reinard Sustens a yellow card for diving instead. 17 minutes into the match, Zerkegem's goal looked a bit too open when Arsene Anteunis came free, but Mateo Maertens reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mateo Maertens showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Arsene Anteunis in the 19th minute of the match. Rocky Van Dijck struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Mateo Maertens didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Desse . The supporters of Desse booed when Zerkegem was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcus Volders didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Klaas Wintermans had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Reinard Sustens could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 39th minute of the match, but Jannic Goovaers made a huge save. The crowd rose to their feet as Reinard Sustens kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Jannic Goovaers. That made the score 1-0 in the 39 minute of play. Klaas Wintermans fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mateo Maertens having to interfere. In the 47th minute, Reinard Sustens got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

In the 55thth minute of the game Wilfried De Smet who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Desse 's Jannic Goovaers was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Klaas Wintermans sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. For all the effort they put into the match, the Desse players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Zerkegem.
