Den Deugniet's Henrik Schoenmaekers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Van Den Abeele in the 15th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ruud Van De Broeck during the 17th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Zele's Ruud Van De Broeck got a free kick in the 17th minute. 21 minutes into the match, Den Deugniet's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Van Den Abeele came free, but Henrik Schoenmaekers reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Daniel Van Den Abeele received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Henrik Schoenmaekers tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Zele's Karel-Jan Van Haght got a good chance for a goal in the 44th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 47 minutes into the match, Zele's Karel-Jan Van Haght sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Henrik Schoenmaekers narrowly saved just below the crossbar.

The wind increased when Karel-Jan Van Haght made the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 51st minute, Daniel Van Den Abeele managed to get in a good position for a shot. Zele's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Van Den Abeele was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
