After 10 played minutes Geten got a freekick which was hit by Dre Van hoegaerde. Werner Elsens struck a weak shot in the 14th minute. Stephan De Meulder didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Geten. If Dre Van hoegaerde had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 17 minutes into the match, Werner Elsens had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Stephan De Meulder. KMSK DEINZE's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Werner Elsens was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. 23 minutes into the game, Geten's Dre Van hoegaerde nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Stephan De Meulder made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. Mitch Cuejvers recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 27th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Werner Elsens fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Stephan De Meulder having to interfere. After some careless play in the KMSK DEINZE defense, Werner Elsens kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Stephan De Meulder. The KMSK DEINZE fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Stephan De Meulder should have stopped the shot. With 40 minutes on the clock, Tim-Jan De Roover commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. After 40 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for KMSK DEINZE! Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Werner Elsens to make the kick off. Oswald Worteler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Thierry Deckers having to interfere. Dre Van hoegaerde sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 62 minutes into the match, Geten's goal looked a bit too open when Eddy Smekens came free, but Thierry Deckers reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Eddy Smekens recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 93 minutes, Eddy Smekens managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. KMSK DEINZE's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eddy Smekens was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Geten eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
