Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Arno Ghesels in the 3rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ritchie Render prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ritchie Render made a fantastic save in the 6th minute, when Wannes Delen sent off a good shot on target. After 6 minutes, Tommie Mouton mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the RC Mechelen and the F.C Roeselare players grew even worse after the yellow card. Tommie Mouton hit a great freekick 7 minutes into the match. Carel Van Linthoudt kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. When Izak Godts came up free with the goalie in the 14th minute, the RC Mechelen fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Izak Godts couldn't finish the play. After a rather tough play, F.C Roeselare's Carel Van Linthoudt got a free kick in the 15th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 16th minute, Izak Godts managed to get in a good position for a shot. RC Mechelen's supporters rose to their feet, but Izak Godts was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ivan Hemelaers breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Arno Ghesels in the 18th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ritchie Render saved RC Mechelen from getting behind. Arno Ghesels sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Arno Rauvoe sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 27th minute, Izak Godts ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ivan Hemelaers was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Ritchie Render made a fantastic save in the 30th minute, when Wannes Delen sent off a good shot on target. Ivan Hemelaers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arno Rauvoe in the 32nd minute of play. Wannes Delen could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 36th minute of the match, but Ritchie Render made a huge save. RC Mechelen's Ritchie Render proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 37th minute of the match, managed to save RC Mechelen from getting a goal against them. Ronny Kuppens charged in rather forcefully in the 39th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ronny Kuppens the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 40th minute, Ronny Kuppens hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Wannes Delen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Arno Ghesels received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Ritchie Render tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ritchie Render showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Arno Ghesels in the 47th minute of the match. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Arno Ghesels to make the kick off. In the 56th minute, Wannes Delen made a precise shot to the right of Ritchie Render. RC Mechelen's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. A collision led to RC Mechelen getting a freekick after 61 minutes play. Ronny Kuppens hit a great ball. Ritchie Render made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arno Ghesels in the 66th minute of play. Ivan Hemelaers took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Izak Godts, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 71 minutes into the match, F.C Roeselare's goal looked a bit too open when Ronny Kuppens came free, but Ivan Hemelaers reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ivan Hemelaers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Izak Godts, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 75th minute, Izak Godts managed to get in a good position for a shot. He walked away shaking his head. 94 minutes into the match, RC Mechelen's goal looked a bit too open when Wannes Delen came free, but Ritchie Render reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
