Gert Roekeloos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Renzo De Wilde tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gert Roekeloos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 5th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Renzo De Wilde was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Willem-Jan Van de Gaer showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 10 minute of play. The supporters of AKADEMIA booed when KV Malines was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Boris Jennes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Isidoor Van Elsen's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lex De Maerschalckx read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 27th minute of play. Renzo De Wilde acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 30th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Boris Jennes. Willem-Jan Van de Gaer sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Lex De Maerschalckx made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Isidoor Van Elsen in the 37th minute of play. In the 42nd minute Isidoor Van Elsen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lex De Maerschalckx saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Willem-Jan Van de Gaer made the kick off in the second half. After 55 minutes, Gert Roekeloos mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the KV Malines and the AKADEMIA players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 55th match minute, KV Malines was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gert Roekeloos to maneuver through the defense. Willem-Jan Van de Gaer struck a weak shot in the 60th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Willem-Jan Van de Gaer in the 79th minute of play forced AKADEMIA's goalkeeper Renzo De Wilde to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 90th minute, Isidoor Van Elsen managed to get in a good position for a shot. AKADEMIA's supporters rose to their feet, but Isidoor Van Elsen was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lex De Maerschalckx breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
