Frits Govaerts started the match with the kick off. Frits Govaerts fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joos Van Severen having to interfere. Frits Govaerts was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 7th minute. K.V Mechelen's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. K.V Mechelen's Billie Stroobans played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Henrik Reijers in the 15th minute of play. The supporters of Alster booed when K.V Mechelen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Piet Van Bettenrode didn't get a good kick on the ball. Yoachim Vercauteren could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 21st minute of the match, but Joos Van Severen made a huge save. 26 minutes into the match, Alster's goalkeeper Joos Van Severen had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Yoachim Vercauteren. If Henrik Reijers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The supporters of K.V Mechelen booed when Alster was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vincent Van Kelf didn't get a good kick on the ball. 60 minutes into the match, Alster's goal looked a bit too open when Frits Govaerts came free, but Joos Van Severen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 67th minute Frits Govaerts shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joos Van Severen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 68th minute, Frits Govaerts made a precise shot to the right of Joos Van Severen. Alster's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. Louis-Philippe Van De Veldens short, quick shot in the 72ndth minute got Billie Stroobans to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. With a little luck, K.V Mechelen's Billie Stroobans got control of the ball when Louis-Philippe Van De Velden tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to Alster getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Gunther De Hooge hit a great ball. Vincent Van Kelf got his second yellow card in the match during the 77th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. K.V Mechelen's supporters crossed their fingers, but Frits Govaerts was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Alster's Louis-Philippe Van De Velden got a good chance for a goal in the 87th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Frits Govaerts had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. K.V Mechelen had won after a very even match.
