The audience was convinced that Lars Aerts's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jacky Massenhove was relentless in the 41st minute of the game. A collision led to AFC De Haan getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Yanick Van den Driesch hit a great ball. An unexpected shot in the 47th minute by Marco Vereect got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Lars Aerts stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 55th match minute, AFC De Haan was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Denis Van Bombergen to maneuver through the defense. The AFC De Haan supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Racing Genk's performance. The match ended with a win for Racing Genk.
