KFC Stavelot's Philippe Van den Berch played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jorge Vuerinx in the 13th minute of play. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 23 minutes, Rob Vanden Bossche managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cruzeiro EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rob Vanden Bossche was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 26 minutes into the match, KFC Stavelot's goal looked a bit too open when Joel Eggers came free, but Philippe Van den Berch reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, KFC Stavelot's Philippe Van den Berch got control of the ball when Rob Vanden Bossche tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 29th minute, Etienne Van Der Heijden hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jorge Vuerinx stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Philippe Van den Berch was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Jorge Vuerinx's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Philippe Van den Berch read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 62nd minute of play. Philippe Van den Berch didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cruzeiro EC. If Dylan Van den Berchen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. KFC Stavelot's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Cruzeiro EC the free kick.
