The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Arend Van Geestel recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 16th minute. Deerlijk's Maurus Leempoels played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tijs Timmermans in the 53rd minute of play. With an all-out effort, Deerlijk's Gwenn Herinckx threw himself towards the right post 95 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Erik Van Haechten, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Alphonse Bourguignon's late challenge caught a Deerlijk's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alphonse Bourguignon helped the player get up and apologised. Alphonse Bourguignon hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match.
