Spectators: 6731 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1731, VIP seats: 0) KAA Tongerlo's Bernt Raeijmaeckers started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When Jim Van Den Hout came up free with the goalie in the 5th minute, the KAA Tongerlo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jim Van Den Hout couldn't finish the play. Sven De Raedemaecker made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bernt Raeijmaeckers in the 6th minute of play. Karel-Jan Wynaerts's late challenge caught a KAA Tongerlo's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Karel-Jan Wynaerts helped the player get up and apologised. In the 7th match minute, Sporting CP was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Karel-Jan Wynaerts to maneuver through the defense. Douglas Vandewalle was a little too slow when Dominick Van Linthoud got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 9th minute. The score was now 1-0. Douglas Vandewalle made an important save on a dangerous shot by Henri-Patrick Marrant in the 12th minute. In the 15th minute Bernt Raeijmaeckers shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sven De Raedemaecker saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Henri-Patrick Marrant who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 23rdth minute tested the skills of Douglas Vandewalle when he managed to save the team from getting behind. If Henri-Patrick Marrant had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 33 played minutes KAA Tongerlo got a freekick which was hit by Guillaume Limpens. After recieving a nice pass, Sporting CP's Stijn Stas tried to score from far away in the 34th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Sven De Raedemaecker made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bernt Raeijmaeckers in the 37th minute of play. If Bernt Raeijmaeckers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Erwin-Alexander Van De Broeck during the 40th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 40th match minute, KAA Tongerlo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Erwin-Alexander Van De Broeck to maneuver through the defense. In the 41st minute the ball was on its way in behind KAA Tongerlo's goalkeeper Douglas Vandewalle, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Jim Van Den Hout sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Dominick Van Linthoud stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Thanks to some nice moves Jim Van Den Hout could shoot a difficult shot in the 59th minute, which Sven De Raedemaecker however easily saved by the left post. Bernt Raeijmaeckers fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sven De Raedemaecker having to interfere. 71 minutes in the game, Jim Van Den Hout fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Sven De Raedemaecker having to interfere. After 72 minutes, Soren Berckmans mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sporting CP and the KAA Tongerlo players grew even worse after the yellow card. If Bernt Raeijmaeckers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Sporting CP's Sven De Raedemaecker played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bernt Raeijmaeckers in the 78th minute of play. Jim Van Den Hout sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Dominick Van Linthoud had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dominick Van Linthoud struck a weak shot in the 84th minute. Douglas Vandewalle didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sporting CP. In the 85th minute, Jo Van den Bergh hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sporting CP's Sven De Raedemaecker played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bernt Raeijmaeckers in the 97th minute of play. KAA Tongerlo's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
