Alphonse Jans received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Andries Salms came out and tried to block the shot, but Alphonse Jans slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 9th minute. In the 16th minute Jesse Van der Vorst shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Andries Salms saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Andries Salms made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alphonse Jans in the 19th minute of play. Glenn Roofhoof could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 30th minute of the match, but Andries Salms made a huge save. Sporting Club Gent's Andries Salms proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 32nd minute of the match, managed to save Sporting Club Gent from getting a goal against them. Alphonse Jans fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Andries Salms having to interfere. After 36 played minutes Sporting Club Gent got a freekick which was hit by Cui Lin Zhou. Glenn Roofhoofs short, quick shot in the 43rdth minute got Andries Salms to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. If Glenn Roofhoof had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Alphonse Jans to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute Alphonse Jans shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Andries Salms saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, Glenn Roofhoof managed to get in a good position for a shot. KAA Court-Saint-Etienne's supporters rose to their feet, but Glenn Roofhoof was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Andries Salms breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Andries Salms showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Glenn Roofhoof, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. Alphonse Jans sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 66 minutes, Brend Van Impe mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sporting Club Gent and the KAA Court-Saint-Etienne players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 66th match minute, Sporting Club Gent was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Brend Van Impe to maneuver through the defense. Alphonse Jans recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 67th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 70th minute, Silvain Rosbach ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Andries Salms was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. When Alphonse Jans came up free with the goalie in the 73rd minute, the KAA Court-Saint-Etienne fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alphonse Jans couldn't finish the play. 74 minutes into the match, Sporting Club Gent's goal looked a bit too open when Glenn Roofhoof came free, but Andries Salms reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Glenn Roofhoof sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 77thth minute of the game Alphonse Jans who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sporting Club Gent's Andries Salms was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Andries Salms showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alphonse Jans in the 78th minute of the match. After 79 minutes of play, KAA Court-Saint-Etienne's Glenn Roofhoof made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Andries Salms was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 85th match minute, Sporting Club Gent was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kajetan Laba to maneuver through the defense. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Glenn Roofhoof in the 89th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Andries Salms saved Sporting Club Gent from getting behind. Andries Salms took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Glenn Roofhoof, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 92nd minute, Glenn Roofhoof managed to get in a good position for a shot. KAA Court-Saint-Etienne's supporters rose to their feet, but Glenn Roofhoof was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Andries Salms breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. KAA Court-Saint-Etienne were victorious despite being under pressure from Sporting Club Gent for much of the match.
