Pieter-Maarten Gielens could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 11th minute of the match, but Andries Salms made a huge save. After 12 played minutes Sporting Club Gent got a freekick which was hit by Kajetan Laba. In the 15th minute, Sporting Club Gent's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Pieter-Maarten Gielens fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Andries Salms made an important save on a dangerous shot by Pieter-Maarten Gielens in the 22nd minute. Andries Salms made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bas Van Aertvin in the 25th minute of play. Tobias Blixt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Antonio Bauwens tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 30 minutes into the match, Sporting Club Gent's goal looked a bit too open when Bas Van Aertvin came free, but Andries Salms reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Pieter-Maarten Gielens could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but Andries Salms made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tobias Blixt in the 35th minute of play forced SCG Muangthong United's goalkeeper Antonio Bauwens to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Reinaert Rits blasted a shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Antonio Bauwens having to make a save. After a defensive mix-up in SCG Muangthong United's zone, Tobias Blixt stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Antonio Bauwens came out of the goal and Tobias Blixt tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Andries Salms made an important save on a dangerous shot by Pieter-Maarten Gielens in the 47th minute. Bas Van Aertvin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Andries Salms tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Bas Van Aertvin to strike the kick off in the second half. Sporting Club Gent's Andries Salms played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bas Van Aertvin in the 59th minute of play. Michael Dewinter's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Andries Salms read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 67th minute of play. Andries Salms showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pieter-Maarten Gielens in the 69th minute of the match. 70 minutes into the match, Pieter-Maarten Gielens notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Sporting Club Gent's Andries Salms. Andries Salms was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Sporting Club Gent's supporters rose to their feet, but Tobias Blixt was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Antonio Bauwens breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Tobias Blixt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. Antonio Bauwens was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Kajetan Laba showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-1 in the 89 minute of play. SCG Muangthong United's Antonio Bauwens played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Brend Van Impe in the 95th minute of play. Sporting Club Gent were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
