The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Miguel Van Mechelen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 4th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Lars De Malier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Miguel Van Mechelen in the 7th minute of play. In the 15th minute, Yelle Helsen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 17 minutes into the match, YR Mechelen's Miguel Van Mechelen sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Lars De Malier narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 20th minute, Miguel Van Mechelen managed to get in a good position for a shot. YR Mechelen's supporters rose to their feet, but Miguel Van Mechelen was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lars De Malier breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Miguel Van Mechelen recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 23rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Hectic booed when YR Mechelen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ricky Tilemans didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lars De Malier showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Miguel Van Mechelen in the 29th minute of the match. Miguel Van Mechelen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 39th minute Jan-Simon Franckx shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Andries Van Mechelen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Miguel Van Mechelen in the 40th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lars De Malier prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Wout Coekx kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Miguel Van Mechelen's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Lars De Malier was relentless in the 45th minute of the game. In the 47th minute, YR Mechelen's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Mats Degraef fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Miguel Van Mechelen to strike the kick off in the second half. Miguel Van Mechelen might have been able to make a better finish in the 53rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Lars De Malier. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Miguel Van Mechelen ran back to his position shaking his head. Andries Mangelschot recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. YR Mechelen's Andries Van Mechelen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Wout Coekx in the 58th minute of play. When the match had been going on for 62 minutes, YR Mechelen's Vincent Van Mechelen got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Lars De Malier. YR Mechelen's Miguel Van Mechelen got a good chance for a goal in the 74th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. YR Mechelen's Andries Van Mechelen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kent Demarez in the 78th minute of play. Lars De Malier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Miguel Van Mechelen in the 83rd minute of play. With his leg Lars De Malier managed to avoid a goal in the 85thth minute, when YR Mechelen's Miguel Van Mechelen fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After a defensive mix-up in Hectic's zone, Miguel Van Mechelen stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lars De Malier came out of the goal and Miguel Van Mechelen tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Miguel Van Mechelen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lars De Malier having to interfere. The YR Mechelen players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
