Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Renzo Dekkers took the kick off in the first half of the match. Jacque Huijgens's late challenge caught a DrughiGenk's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jacque Huijgens helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of DrughiGenk booed when FS Gent was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jacque Huijgens didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 8th minute Jozef Van De Broeck shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Willem-Jan Laermans saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 10th minute, Marnix Van Turnhout left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The DrughiGenk fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Willem-Jan Laermans made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marnix Van Turnhout in the 16th minute of play. 17 minutes into the match, FS Gent's goal looked a bit too open when Wilian da Mata came free, but Willem-Jan Laermans reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. FS Gent's Jacque Huijgens got his second yellow card of the match in the 24th minute. The referee ordered Jacque Huijgens off the ground. Jullian Hoes recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 28th minute Phillipe Van Hoyveldt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Willem-Jan Laermans saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Wilhelm Ulbo took the ball and in the 32 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Willem-Jan Laermans. Willem-Jan Laermans dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Renaud Van de Goor during the 36th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of DrughiGenk booed when FS Gent was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Renaud Van de Goor didn't get a good kick on the ball. 37 minutes into the match, FS Gent's goal looked a bit too open when Marnix Van Turnhout came free, but Willem-Jan Laermans reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in FS Gent's zone, Wilian da Mata stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Willem-Jan Laermans came out of the goal and Wilian da Mata tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 46 minutes into the game, DrughiGenk's Phillipe Van Hoyveldt nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Willem-Jan Laermans made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Willem-Jan Laermans was out of position in the 52 minute of play, and Phillipe Van Hoyveldt capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Phillipe Van Hoyveldt really showed his touch with that goal: 0-4. After some careless play in the FS Gent defense, Marnix Van Turnhout kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Willem-Jan Laermans. The FS Gent fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Willem-Jan Laermans should have stopped the shot. Willem-Jan Laermans showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Phillipe Van Hoyveldt in the 59th minute of the match. After 61 minutes, Hendrik Van Herck mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FS Gent and the DrughiGenk players grew even worse after the yellow card. FS Gent's Willem-Jan Laermans played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marnix Van Turnhout in the 63rd minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as DrughiGenk's Phillipe Van Hoyveldt slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Willem-Jan Laermans. That made the score 0-7 after 70 minutes of play. Willem-Jan Laermans showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Phillipe Van Hoyveldt in the 73rd minute of the match. In the 75th minute, Wilian da Mata made a precise shot to the right of Willem-Jan Laermans. FS Gent's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-8. Wilian da Mata struck a weak shot in the 78th minute. Willem-Jan Laermans didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for DrughiGenk. When Alphonse Degens fell near the penalty area in the 79th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FS Gent's protests and gave Alphonse Degens a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to FS Gent getting a freekick after 80 minutes play. Alphonse Degens hit a great ball. In the 82nd minute, Marnix Van Turnhout made a precise shot to the right of Willem-Jan Laermans. FS Gent's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-9. In the 86th minute of the match, Marnix Van Turnhout got a very nice opportunity to score, but Willem-Jan Laermans was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Willem-Jan Laermans showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Phillipe Van Hoyveldt, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. Arne Sterckmans took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Renzo Dekkers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 95 minutes, Renzo Dekkers managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FS Gent's supporters crossed their fingers, but Renzo Dekkers was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. DrughiGenk played a much better game than FS Gent and deserved their victory. The FS Gent players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
