The throw-in from Joachim Pannekoek in the 16th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Zandvoorde's Gert-Jan Grammet. Lieven Bossuyt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Harrie Smidts having to interfere. 23 minutes into the game, Joachim Pannekoek threw the ball into play from the sideline. Zandvoorde's Philippe Francx quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Joachim Pannekoek got a throw-in 27 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Gino Van Den Eijnde. Harrie Smidts took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gino Van Den Eijnde, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Harrie Smidts made a fantastic save in the 29th minute, when Lieven Bossuyt sent off a good shot on target. After some careless play in the Zandvoorde defense, Nicolas Van Beets kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Harrie Smidts. The Zandvoorde fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Harrie Smidts should have stopped the shot. 34 minutes into the match, Zandvoorde's goal looked a bit too open when Lieven Bossuyt came free, but Harrie Smidts reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 45th match minute, Racing Leuven was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gino Van Den Eijnde to maneuver through the defense. Lieven Bossuyt kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The supporters of Racing Leuven booed when Zandvoorde was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Charles-Antoine Andries didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fredrik Van Den Driessche made in the 59th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Zandvoorde's Philippe Francx. The Racing Leuven players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
