The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The supporters of Excelsior Mullem booed when KFC Melkwezer was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Patrick Vereeken didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 9th minute Cedric Vuerinckx shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dany Vermeulen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 17thth minute of the game Jonathan Reynaerts who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but KFC Melkwezer's Dany Vermeulen was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 19 minutes, Bryan Schouters mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the KFC Melkwezer and the Excelsior Mullem players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to KFC Melkwezer getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Raf Spoelberch hit a great ball. Dany Vermeulen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jonathan Reynaerts, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. When Bryan Schouters was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 27 minutes had been played. After a rather tough play, KFC Melkwezer's Bryan Schouters got a free kick in the 28th minute. If Frederic Robijns had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dany Vermeulen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cedric Vuerinckx, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. In the 34th minute Jonathan Reynaerts shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dany Vermeulen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Roel Van Leemputte was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Cedric Vuerinckx was the one to do the kick off. When the match had gone on for 51 minutes, Cedric Vuerinckx took a quick shot and it went in 1-2 without a chance for Dany Vermeulen to make any attempt to save it. Cedric Vuerinckx came free with the goalkeeper in the 55th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Dany Vermeulen could save by the left post. With an all-out effort, Excelsior Mullem's Dany Vermeulen threw himself towards the right post 58 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Jonathan Reynaerts, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Roel Van Leemputte took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Raf Spoelberch, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 62 played minutes KFC Melkwezer got a freekick which was hit by Renzo van Hacht. KFC Melkwezer's Dany Vermeulen proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 63rd minute of the match, managed to save KFC Melkwezer from getting a goal against them. In the 69thth minute of the game Jonathan Reynaerts who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but KFC Melkwezer's Dany Vermeulen was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 71st minute, Jonathan Reynaerts made a precise shot to the right of Dany Vermeulen. KFC Melkwezer's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-4. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Cedric Vuerinckx in the 74th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dany Vermeulen prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 84th minute, Jonathan Reynaerts left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Excelsior Mullem fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-6. In the 93rd minute, Herman De Wever hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Excelsior Mullem's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
