When Benjamin Sonntag fell near the penalty area in the 3rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Bor. Dortmund's protests and gave Benjamin Sonntag a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Bor. Dortmund's Benjamin Sonntag got a free kick in the 3rd minute. The supporters of Bor. Dortmund booed when A.C. Milan was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 4 match minutes in a wonderful position. Frederic Krützkamp didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Bor. Dortmund getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Ralf-Willy Wiedmann hit a great ball. Marcel Schiborr took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pascal Peters, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 14 minutes, Pascal Peters managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. A.C. Milan's supporters crossed their fingers, but Pascal Peters was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 20 played minutes Bor. Dortmund got a freekick which was hit by Enrico Timmermanns. When Jan-Felix Gut came up free with the goalie in the 21st minute, the A.C. Milan fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jan-Felix Gut couldn't finish the play. Robin Schätzle showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jan-Philipp Dehnicke-Schröter in the 24th minute of the match. Ralf-Willy Wiedmann could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 31st minute of the match, but Robin Schätzle made a huge save. Ralf-Willy Wiedmann scored 2-0 in the 35th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Robin Schätzle, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. A.C. Milan's Ben Manninger got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ben Manninger hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. Robin Schätzle made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Ralf-Willy Wiedmann sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jan-Philipp Dehnicke-Schröter in the 46th minute of play forced A.C. Milan's goalkeeper Robin Schätzle to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 47th minute, Jan-Felix Gut got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Pascal Peters stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, Ralf-Willy Wiedmann had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Robin Schätzle. A.C. Milan's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ralf-Willy Wiedmann was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0. A.C. Milan's Robin Schätzle played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ralf-Willy Wiedmann in the 58th minute of play. Bor. Dortmund's Marcel Schiborr proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 60th minute of the match, managed to save Bor. Dortmund from getting a goal against them. The audience thought a goal was coming when Pascal Peters got free with Marcel Schiborr in the 64th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Robin Schätzle made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ralf-Willy Wiedmann in the 65th minute of play. After 67 minutes, Klaus Peeters mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Bor. Dortmund and the A.C. Milan players grew even worse after the yellow card. With a little luck, Bor. Dortmund's Marcel Schiborr got control of the ball when Pascal Peters tried to sneak it across the goal line. 79 minutes into the match, A.C. Milan's goal looked a bit too open when Ralf-Willy Wiedmann came free, but Robin Schätzle reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A.C. Milan's Ben Manninger got a good chance for a goal in the 81st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 88th minute, Jan-Felix Gut got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ben Manninger recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Robin Schätzle showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ralf-Willy Wiedmann in the 92nd minute of the match. 95 minutes into the game, Klaus Peeters cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-0. Robin Schätzle was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The Bor. Dortmund players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
