Dortmund's Marcel Schiborr played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Achim Strelzing in the 15th minute of play. Joachim Overesch hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. Achim Strelzing recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ralf-Willy Wiedmann sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Joachim Overesch was shown his second yellow card after 35 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. 36 minutes in the game, Achim Strelzing fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Marcel Schiborr having to interfere. Tobias Gulder hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. Carlo Stum made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ralf-Willy Wiedmann in the 38th minute of play. Matthäus Kohl might have been able to make a better finish in the 43rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marcel Schiborr. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Matthäus Kohl ran back to his position shaking his head. Ralf-Willy Wiedmann's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Carlo Stum read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 44th minute of play. In the 45th minute, Nico Schmit hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ralf-Willy Wiedmann to make the kick off. When Ralf-Willy Wiedmann came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the Bor. Dortmund fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ralf-Willy Wiedmann couldn't finish the play. 53 minutes into the match, Wiesenfeld's goalkeeper Carlo Stum had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ralf-Willy Wiedmann. After having played for 57 minutes, Ralf-Willy Wiedmann managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bor. Dortmund's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ralf-Willy Wiedmann was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 59th minute, Jan-Philipp Dehnicke-Schröter got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a rather tough play, Bor. Dortmund's goal looked a bit too open when Matthäus Kohl came free, but Marcel Schiborr reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Enrico Timmermanns received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 85th minute. Carlo Stum tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Wiesenfeld getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Nico Schmit hit a great ball. If Ralf-Willy Wiedmann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute.
