With a little luck, Galatasaray SK's Gabriel Rathmann got control of the ball when Gerhard Schrape tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Galatasaray SK's Klaus Beudel in the 12th minute got a chance for a shot 12th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. After a rather tough play, Poli TM 1921's Torsten Weidemann got a free kick in the 23rd minute. After 24 played minutes Galatasaray SK got a freekick which was hit by Klaus Beudel. A collision led to Galatasaray SK getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Klaus Beudel hit a great ball. Gerhard Schrapes short, quick shot in the 34thth minute got Gabriel Rathmann to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 39 minutes into the match, Galatasaray SK's Klaus Beudel sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Thomas Volk narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 43rd match minute, Poli TM 1921 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sebastian Lachenmaier to maneuver through the defense. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

In the 55thth minute of the game Eduard Säuml who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Poli TM 1921's Thomas Volk was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 57 minutes into the match, Galatasaray SK's goal looked a bit too open when Peter Werners came free, but Gabriel Rathmann reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Torsten Weidemann hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. Klaus Beudel's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Thomas Volk read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 60th minute of play. After 62 played minutes Poli TM 1921 got a freekick which was hit by Per Schwering. In the 64th minute, Torsten Weidemann left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Poli TM 1921 fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. A collision led to Poli TM 1921 getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Holger Geiblinger hit a great ball. Arto Kaldmaa took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 69th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Thomas Volk. Poli TM 1921's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After 75th play minutes Eduard Säuml shot 1-2, a short shot which went by Thomas Volk and just under the crossbar into goal. Stefan Schäfer could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 79th minute of the match, but Thomas Volk made a huge save. In the 80th match minute, Poli TM 1921 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Per Schwering to maneuver through the defense. In the 87th minute the ball was on its way in behind Poli TM 1921's goalkeeper Thomas Volk, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The Galatasaray SK supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Galatasaray SK would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
