Spectators: 7506 (Terracing: 5578, Seating: 1878, VIP seats: 50) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. The corner was taken by Jan-Frederik Wenning in the 13th minute. Jan-Frederik Wenning made a great header on Salzburg's corner, it was just that Poli TM 1921's Thomas Volk managed to reach the ball for a save. Christian Klimbacher came out of the goal in the 15th minute to try and stop a shot by Poli TM 1921's Peter Werners. But to his dismay, Peter Werners quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. If Torsten Weidemann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 19 minutes into the game, Per Schwering was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Poli TM 1921's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Salzburg the free kick. Per Schwering kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. 20 minutes into the match, Salzburg's Jan-Frederik Wenning sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Thomas Volk narrowly saved just below the crossbar. A collision led to Poli TM 1921 getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. Gerhard Schrape hit a great ball. Jan-Frederik Wenning could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 25th minute of the match, but Thomas Volk made a huge save. Christian Klimbacher made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gerhard Schrape in the 26th minute of play. In the 27th match minute, Poli TM 1921 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bernd Luft to maneuver through the defense. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Arnold Holzapfel in the 34th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Thomas Volk prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 36th match minute, Salzburg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Arnold Holzapfel to maneuver through the defense. Poli TM 1921's Thomas Volk played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jan-Frederik Wenning in the 39th minute of play. Thomas Volk took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Klaas Nellessen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Arnold Holzapfel stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Poli TM 1921's Thomas Volk played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Arnold Holzapfel in the 51st minute of play. Arnold Holzapfel charged in rather forcefully in the 54th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Arnold Holzapfel the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Poli TM 1921 booed when Salzburg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Arnold Holzapfel didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thomas Volk stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Arnold Holzapfel's shot from short distance in the 57th minute. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. 79 minutes into the match, Poli TM 1921's goal looked a bit too open when Jan-Frederik Wenning came free, but Thomas Volk reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 80th match minute, Poli TM 1921 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Torsten Weidemann to maneuver through the defense. Thomas Volk came out of the goal in the 81st minute to try and stop a shot by Salzburg's Jan-Frederik Wenning. But to his dismay, Jan-Frederik Wenning quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-1. After 84 played minutes Poli TM 1921 got a freekick which was hit by Lennart Limper. Poli TM 1921's Thomas Volk played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jan-Frederik Wenning in the 88th minute of play. Thomas Volk showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jan-Frederik Wenning in the 91st minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jan-Frederik Wenning in the 93rd minute of play forced Poli TM 1921's goalkeeper Thomas Volk to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match had gone on for 95 minutes, Hansjörg Breves took a quick shot and it went in 3-2 without a chance for Christian Klimbacher to make any attempt to save it. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Salzburg fans cheered their team off the field, for while Poli TM 1921 had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
