Amri Solihin was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After a defensive mix-up in Shelfield's zone, Howard Briggs stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Antony Swain came out of the goal and Howard Briggs tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 23 minutes, Mathias Hammarberg managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Westcliff on Sea's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mathias Hammarberg was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Amri Solihin made a fantastic save in the 30th minute, when Jamal Castledine sent off a good shot on target. Al Mannell hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. A collision led to Shelfield getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Isaac Atkinson hit a great ball. Mathias Hammarberg struck a weak shot in the 39th minute. Antony Swain didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Westcliff on Sea. When the match clock showed 41 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Mathias Hammarberg sped through Shelfield's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Antony Swain. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Antony Swain made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Teobald Gacki in the 52nd minute of play. 54 minutes into the match, Shelfield's goal looked a bit too open when Teobald Gacki came free, but Antony Swain reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Teobald Gacki in the 55th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Antony Swain saved Shelfield from getting behind. Teobald Gacki sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 59th minute, Mathias Hammarberg got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. With a little luck, Shelfield's Antony Swain got control of the ball when Mathias Hammarberg tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 69 minutes, Michael Eyre mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Shelfield and the Westcliff on Sea players grew even worse after the yellow card. When Michael Eyre came up free with the goalie in the 78th minute, the Shelfield fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Michael Eyre couldn't finish the play. 82 minutes into the match, Shelfield's goal looked a bit too open when Eric Duffield came free, but Antony Swain reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Shelfield players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
