In the 8th minute, FC Onion's Andrew Whitehead ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Jonny Myers. Jonny Myers yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. In the 10th minute of the match, John Thompson got a very nice opportunity to score, but Jonny Myers was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. After 24 played minutes CUX United got a freekick which was hit by Jo Higginson. With a little luck, CUX United's Jonny Myers got control of the ball when John Thompson tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 26th minute the ball was on its way in behind FC Onion's goalkeeper Jacob Bond, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a rather tough play, CUX United's Martin Osbourne got a free kick in the 27th minute. Jo Higginson hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. In the 34th minute Andrew Whitehead shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonny Myers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, CUX United's Micheal Carpenter got a free kick in the 35th minute. FC Onion's Roy Flynn suffered a sore thigh after 40 minutes and couldn't finish the game. After 40 minutes of play CUX United's Jo Higginson was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. FC Onion made a substitution. Alfie Slater replaced Roy Flynn. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Andrew Whitehead stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gavin Pollock during the 57th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 58 played minutes CUX United got a freekick which was hit by Gavin Pollock. Jonny Myers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Guy Key in the 63rd minute of play. When Andrew Whitehead came up free with the goalie in the 79th minute, the FC Onion fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Andrew Whitehead couldn't finish the play. After some careless play in the CUX United defense, Andrew Whitehead kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jonny Myers. The CUX United fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jonny Myers should have stopped the shot. After 85 played minutes CUX United got a freekick which was hit by Gavin Pollock. After having played for 88 minutes, John Thompson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Onion's supporters crossed their fingers, but John Thompson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 94th minute John Thompson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonny Myers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 96th minute Andrew Whitehead shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonny Myers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. FC Onion's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
