Budleigh Salterton's Alan Simms proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 43rd minute of the match, managed to save Budleigh Salterton from getting a goal against them. When John Thompson came up free with the goalie in the 48th minute, the FC Onion fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that John Thompson couldn't finish the play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Guy Key was the one to do the kick off. John Thompson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 60th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Guy Key fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alan Simms having to interfere. John Thompson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Guy Key had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Andrew Whitehead might have been able to make a better finish in the 81st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Alan Simms. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. When Roy Flynn was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 84 minutes had been played. Roy Flynn hit a great freekick 85 minutes into the match. Jacob Bond showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Aaron Philpott in the 91st minute of the match. 92 minutes into the game, one of FC Onion:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Andrew Whitehead fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alan Simms having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 98th minute, Andrew Whitehead managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Onion's supporters rose to their feet, but Andrew Whitehead was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Alan Simms breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. There was no doubt that FC Onion were the better team. FC Onion's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
