Clive Dawes hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Stewart Preston in the 15th minute of play forced Skipton's goalkeeper Basil Cornish to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Stewart Preston fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Basil Cornish having to interfere. In the 27th minute, Mickey Deacon hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Skipton booed when Newton Abbot was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nigel Reed didn't get a good kick on the ball. 44 minutes into the match, Skipton's Kyle Ashton broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Darren Parry showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Patrick Marston, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. In the 46th minute of the game, Johnnie Worth landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Matt Dobson during the 46th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Patrick Marston to make the kick off. Stewart Preston received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Basil Cornish tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Basil Cornish showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zackary Billington in the 55th minute of the match. Basil Cornish showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zackary Billington, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. In the 63rd minute Zackary Billington shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Basil Cornish saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Basil Cornish made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Stewart Preston in the 68th minute of play. After having played for 69 minutes, Patrick Marston managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Skipton's supporters crossed their fingers, but Patrick Marston was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Newton Abbot booed when Skipton was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bob Leather didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Nigel Reed came up free with the goalie in the 73rd minute, the Newton Abbot fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nigel Reed couldn't finish the play. Skipton's Basil Cornish played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Matt Dobson in the 75th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Skipton's Brett Lamb got a free kick in the 77th minute. In the 78th minute Stewart Preston shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Basil Cornish saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Skipton's zone, Zackary Billington stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Basil Cornish came out of the goal and Zackary Billington tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Newton Abbot's Stewart Preston in the 83rd minute got a chance for a shot 83rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Skipton's goalie prevented a goal. Zackary Billington sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Basil Cornish showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zackary Billington, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. Skipton's Basil Cornish played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Stewart Preston in the 94th minute of play. Newton Abbot's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
