Fazıl Demirkan could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 10th minute of the match, but Bora Han Tanak made a huge save. If Aytunç Buyrukalp had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Zenit St. Petersburg booed when Ekinözü was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Abdi Mehmet Türe didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bora Han Tanak was left in no man's land by his defense there! Abdi Mehmet Türe recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 35th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 37 played minutes Zenit St. Petersburg got a freekick which was hit by Necmi Torel. Tekin Akkurt showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tugay Başol in the 41st minute of the match. In the 44th match minute, Zenit St. Petersburg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Atilla Bumin Geylanlar to maneuver through the defense. The audience thought a goal was coming when Fazıl Demirkan got free with Bora Han Tanak in the 46th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aytunç Buyrukalp in the 48th minute of play forced Zenit St. Petersburg's goalkeeper Bora Han Tanak to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

After a rather tough play, Ekinözü's Ateş Dalan got a free kick in the 54th minute. The Zenit St. Petersburg fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Bora Han Tanak should have stopped the shot. In the 59th minute, Seyhan Tanyeli hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Bora Han Tanak showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Aytunç Buyrukalp in the 61st minute of the match. In the 62nd minute of the match Ekinözü got a corner. Zenit St. Petersburg's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Deniz Tan ran over to the corner to take the kick. After 69 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Zenit St. Petersburg! The referee gave Ekinözü a penalty, 71 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Aytunç Buyrukalp, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Zenit St. Petersburg's Bora Han Tanak. 4-0. With an all-out effort, Zenit St. Petersburg's Tekin Akkurt threw himself towards the right post 86 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Ali Cengiz Eymen, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 87th minute Zenit St. Petersburg were awarded a corner. Ali Cengiz Eymen went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that Ali Cengiz Eymen got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Tekin Akkurt quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Ali Cengiz Eymen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tekin Akkurt having to interfere. Zenit St. Petersburg's Bora Han Tanak played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abdi Mehmet Türe in the 94th minute of play.
