The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Hayati Işıklar struck a weak shot in the 7th minute. Tayfun Özhan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mersin. A collision led to Türkiye getting a freekick after 10 minutes play. Artaç Satır hit a great ball. Gencalp Zübeyir, 11 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Mersin's Uygur Refah got a good chance for a goal in the 13th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After having played for 15 minutes, Ender Ozan managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Türkiye's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ender Ozan was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 17th minute Ferhan Rasif shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Başar Tunçkol saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Mersin getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Sait Dizdar hit a great ball. Mersin's Başar Tunçkol played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ferhan Rasif in the 23rd minute of play. After having played for 25 minutes, Hayati Işıklar managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mersin's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hayati Işıklar was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Kurtuluş Tümcan fell near the penalty area in the 29th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Türkiye's protests and gave Kurtuluş Tümcan a yellow card for diving instead. Kurtuluş Tümcan hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. After recieving a nice pass, Mersin's Gencalp Zübeyir tried to score from far away in the 30th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. 33 minutes into the game, one of Türkiye:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Tayfun Özhan had in the 35thth minute some difficulties stopping Gencalp Zübeyir's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. If Ferhan Rasif had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sait Dizdar kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. In the 50th minute of the match Türkiye got a corner. Mersin's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Fedai Sadiray ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Fedai Sadiray got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Başar Tunçkol quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save.

Başar Tunçkol made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ender Ozan in the 56th minute of play. When Ender Ozan came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Türkiye fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ender Ozan couldn't finish the play. 68 minutes into the match, Türkiye's goal looked a bit too open when Hayati Işıklar came free, but Tayfun Özhan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Uygur Refah received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Tayfun Özhan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 76 minutes into the match, Türkiye's goal looked a bit too open when Uygur Refah came free, but Tayfun Özhan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Artaç Satır during the 77th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 77th match minute, Türkiye was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Artaç Satır to maneuver through the defense. In the 80th minute, Hayati Işıklar left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Mersin fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Ender Ozan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Başar Tunçkol having to interfere. When Ender Ozan came up free with the goalie in the 87th minute, the Türkiye fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ender Ozan couldn't finish the play. Tayfun Özhan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ali Haydar Kapkin in the 97th minute of the match. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Mersin fans cheered their team off the field, for while Türkiye had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
