Utkan Turhan hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. 23 minutes into the match, Borussia Dortmund's goalkeeper Mustafa Ali Durucan had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tayfun Öveç. In the 25th match minute, Borussia Dortmund was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aykutalp Erginay to maneuver through the defense. Mustafa Ali Durucan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tayfun Öveç in the 30th minute of the match. 32 minutes had been played when some careless play by Borussia Dortmund's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Laurence Krause was slow to take the kick. During this time Isparta SK's players had a chance to rest. 34 minutes into the game, Waldemar Dembkowski cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Borussia Dortmund's Luis-Javier Duarte got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. İsmail Hakkı Erginer could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 40th minute of the match, but Mustafa Ali Durucan made a huge save. In the 41stth minute of the game Waldemar Dembkowski who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Isparta SK's Hulki Gagauz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Waldemar Dembkowski made a kick off. Hulki Gagauz made a fantastic save in the 51st minute, when Bican Ilgınlı sent off a good shot on target. In the 53rd minute, İsmail Hakkı Erginer ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Mustafa Ali Durucan was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-2. After a rather tough play, Borussia Dortmund's Waldemar Dembkowski got a free kick in the 56th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luis-Javier Duarte in the 68th minute of play forced Isparta SK's goalkeeper Hulki Gagauz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 71st minute, Borussia Dortmund's Bican Ilgınlı dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-3. Batu Ümran took the ball and in the 76 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Mustafa Ali Durucan. Mustafa Ali Durucan dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-3. Hulki Gagauz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Waldemar Dembkowski in the 83rd minute. 87 minutes into the match, Isparta SK's goal looked a bit too open when Waldemar Dembkowski came free, but Hulki Gagauz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 89th minute, Waldemar Dembkowski reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Hulki Gagauz. The goal made the score 3-4. The supporters of Isparta SK booed when Borussia Dortmund was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Waldemar Dembkowski didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Borussia Dortmund supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Borussia Dortmund would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
