The supporters of Borussia Dortmund booed when Izmirspor was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Akif Omural didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bayram Akkoyun came out of the goal in the 10th minute to try and stop a shot by Borussia Dortmund's Şenol Uçman. But to his dismay, Şenol Uçman quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. The crowd rose to their feet as Refik Çetiner kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Bulut Tokyürek. That made the score 1-1 in the 18 minute of play. After 20 minutes, Aras Görkem Bilgetürk mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Borussia Dortmund and the Izmirspor players grew even worse after the yellow card. Bulut Tokyürek didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 22nd minute, which inside left pole to 2-1. Alphan Yenal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bayram Akkoyun having to interfere. 35 minutes had been played when some careless play by Izmirspor's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Nizam Yörükoğlu was slow to take the kick. During this time Borussia Dortmund's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Nizam Yörükoğlu got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Bayram Akkoyun quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Borussia Dortmund's Kemalettin Uzbay got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Şenol Uçman struck a weak shot in the 38th minute. Bayram Akkoyun didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Borussia Dortmund. Borussia Dortmund's Kemalettin Uzbay got a good chance for a goal in the 44th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The score stood at 2-2 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The wind increased when Ozan Vezir made the kick off in the second half. 51 minutes into the match, Izmirspor's goalkeeper Bayram Akkoyun had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Alphan Yenal. With a little luck, Izmirspor's Bayram Akkoyun got control of the ball when Kemalettin Uzbay tried to sneak it across the goal line. 62 minutes into the match, Borussia Dortmund's Şenol Uçman sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Bayram Akkoyun narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 65th minute, Şenol Uçman reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Bayram Akkoyun. The goal made the score 2-3. Bayram Akkoyun made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Şenol Uçman in the 74th minute of play. In the 75th minute, Kemalettin Uzbay made a precise shot to the right of Bayram Akkoyun. Izmirspor's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-4. Bayram Akkoyun showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Şenol Uçman, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. Kemalettin Uzbay fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bayram Akkoyun having to interfere. Refik Çetiner's late challenge caught a Borussia Dortmund's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Borussia Dortmund had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
