The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Samir Tekinay couldn't finish the play. Merter's Samir Tekinay got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Hüsnü Belen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Baturhan Eymen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tacettin Türköne charged in rather forcefully in the 28th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Hüsnü Belen to make the kick off. Merter's Samir Tekinay got a good chance for a goal in the 51st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Hüsnü Belen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Baturhan Eymen having to interfere. Samir Tekinay might have been able to make a better finish in the 54th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Baturhan Eymen. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Samir Tekinay ran back to his position shaking his head. With a little luck, Messina's Baturhan Eymen got control of the ball when Samir Tekinay tried to sneak it across the goal line. Samir Tekinay's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 56thth minute, Baturhan Eymen skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. 59 minutes into the match, Messina's goal looked a bit too open when Hüsnü Belen came free, but Baturhan Eymen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Samir Tekinay got free with Baturhan Eymen in the 76th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hüsnü Belen in the 78th minute of play forced Messina's goalkeeper Baturhan Eymen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Emirhan Başdemir fell near the penalty area in the 79th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Messina's protests and gave Emirhan Başdemir a yellow card for diving instead. In the 79th minute, Emirhan Başdemir hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sefa Günsel in the 82nd minute of play forced Merter's goalkeeper Abdi Başayoğlu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Merter eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
