A collision led to Kocaelispor getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Kuddusî Baransel hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Işıkalp Onur in the 6th minute of play forced Kocaelispor's goalkeeper Orbay Ugraş to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 8th match minute, Florya was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mustafa Yaşar Bengisoy to maneuver through the defense. Türker Tokyay sent away a hard shot on goal in the 10th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Türker Tokyay received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. İzzettin Uğurtan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 18 minutes, Gafur Kartekin put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Orbay Ugraş. Kocaelispor's Rıfkı Budaklı got a good chance for a goal in the 21st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Türker Tokyay blasted a shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without İzzettin Uğurtan having to make a save. Ataol İğdemir took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 29th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Orbay Ugraş. Kocaelispor's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Işıkalp Onur managed to get in a good position for a shot. Florya's supporters rose to their feet, but Işıkalp Onur was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Orbay Ugraş breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Işıkalp Onur came up free with the goalie in the 44th minute, the Florya fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Işıkalp Onur couldn't finish the play. In the 48th minute Türker Tokyay shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but İzzettin Uğurtan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Gafur Kartekin in the 55th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Orbay Ugraş prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a rather tough play, Florya's Bayhan Ayberk got a free kick in the 60th minute. Kocaelispor's Rıfkı Budaklı got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. İzzettin Uğurtan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rıfkı Budaklı in the 63rd minute of play. 68 minutes into the match, Florya's goal looked a bit too open when Türker Tokyay came free, but İzzettin Uğurtan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Türker Tokyay received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 76th minute. İzzettin Uğurtan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Mustafa Yaşar Bengisoy during the 82nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. İzzettin Uğurtan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rıfkı Budaklı, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Bayhan Ayberk's late challenge caught a Kocaelispor's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Bayhan Ayberk helped the player get up and apologised. İzzettin Uğurtan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rıfkı Budaklı, who was totally free with the ball in the 96th minute. The Florya supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Florya would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
